The Happy Video Game Nerd reviews Little Nemo for the NES
A game like this, only easier, would be great.
My 5 year old amazes me sometimes with what he can play though, I let him play some of Phsychonauts, and while he gets stuck in some portions, the bits that he works out, the puzzles that he nuts out are amazing.
Kinda like the lego games, he works those out too... I didn't play games until I was 7, and the ones I did play back then in 1983 were a damn site simpler than the ones they have now, so I have no idea how well I would have done at what he's playing at the age of 5!

Very misleading / ambiguous video. What parts of that scene were CG? None except for the few overlays, right? Big deal, at that resolution and without realistic rendering we can't tell how good it is.
I'm pretty sure the whole thing up until they show "the real Emily" is CG.
And what possible reason do you have to say that? I mean, WHY do people insist on saying something that they cannot back up with ANY reason?
The part where they show the face in cg overlay... THAT'S it for what they've done to the video, overlaid a CG face onto her face after using the very video they're sampling from to get the movement. Why would they show that being the only cg part if they did everything? They'd be shouting from the rooftops if it were everything, they'd deconstruct everything in the room if it were really ALL CG.
Plus, the rest of her body etc. LOOKS more real than the face... especially the mouth.
It's still darn impressive.
But again, it shows how much more you can get away with if you surround your cg in reality.
It's quite impressive, but having all the rest being real helps it enormously

To me he's just a really sad guy who craves love and attention and has serious, serious abandonment and authority issues.
I don't see anything, anything at all worth admiring in the man.

The Joy of Interlacing.
I...I...I Think It Touched My Brain!
I have one and they're friggen brilliant! It doesn't hurt, it doesn't make you gag, it doesn't even feel weird... unless:
* When you tilt your head you do so with a backwards slant so it falls out of your nose and runs into your mouth instead... that's not nice
* You have loaded up the water with so much salt it's not in solution so you end up with actual grains of salt in your nose... that kinda hurts
* You put something other than warm salty water in it... like... really cold water, or really hot water, or urine.
Basically, if you have a sinus infection, or gunged up nasal area in general, and are having issues with it... try one of these, they're really cheap, considered safe by all medical practitioners and have been used for centuries in various countries.
oh, and as a bonus unexpected side effect, my skeptic wife told me that it's stopped me snoring too... so bravo to these things.
"Emily" - Image Metrics Tech Demo
this article states that everything you see in the video is CG, which is patently false
"Emily" - Image Metrics Tech Demo
Of course, that's helped by the facts that:
* This is low res YouTube we're talking about, hides a lot of problems
* They only overlaid a face on top of real video, so all the issues of body movement and realism of other objects was mute. (It helped a lot, as I was looking at the body going, hmm, no, that looks pretty real)
Still, that's some of the damned best mouth movement I've seen on a cg character, mocapped or not.
Although, then when you go back to their full cg characters, you fall back to the same issues there's always been, as on the front page here.
It shows that having as much as possible being real helps an awful lot in selling cg
Sam Harris: What happens if you really follow the bible
So... the moral authority for all of life is "ethical intuitions"? Would not those fail us as well? Sam Harris presupposes (without discussion) that men are basically, fundamentally good and that men will define and keep the proper moral standards based on their own "ethical intuitions". How does Sam Harris know that it is wrong to "paddle children" (as his diatribe implies)? Is it wrong to paddle children because the majority of people feel it is against their "ethical intuitions"? Do we need a poll to determine the morality of such events? How would such moral standards ever change over time if there is no set standard to which we may return, and the only 'standard' is current popular opinion? He fails to realize that the only reason he can even determine that it is -allegedly- wrong to stone certain individuals because of the Bible's commandment, "Thou shalt not kill." The true problem Harris has is understanding the apparent contradictions in the Bible. Rather than seeking a greater understanding of these ostensibly conflicting Biblical mandates, he chooses to ridicule all religious positions without clarifying or even considering his own position. His position is, in fact, untenable.
So, you're suggesting you would like the school of your children to whack them in the butt with a paddle? I'm sure glad you weren't my parent. I'm not wholly against the odd smack FROM A PARENT when the situation warrants it, but:
a) It should be done in extreme moderation and only in extreme cases where the child really, really needs to remember how bad the thing they did was.
&
b) It is the PARENT'S choice, in any given moment. I would never want some detached teacher deciding that some puny 'wrong' deserved getting their butt whacked with a paddle. Give them detention, make them write out lines, make them apologize to whoever they did the wrong to, but do not inflict physical harm on my child.
I don't understand how you're trying to shoot him down either? What are you trying to say is the source of our ethical decisions? Are you saying, "well, some people a long time ago wrote down these things, so let's just follow them blindly because... well, we'd rather not have to think about or discuss it ourselves, that requires too much damn thought, and we have better things to do, like bashing gays." Or are you saying "We should seek to better pick and chose which parts of the bible to believe in?" Because if you are, how is that any better than starting with a blank slate? If you're going to discuss and work out what parts out of a text you are going to follow, then why even have the damn thing in the first place?
And if you're going to follow it fully then you're going to be completely contradictory and also an incredibly violent person. (Check out this sift to see the problems with trying to actually follow the bible for a year)
You seem so against norms changing over time, so you are, then, FOR slavery? FOR stoning to death for a myriad of crimes? Really, your position is by FAR the more untenable.
Charles Manson's Epic Answer (24 sec)
Geeze you have issues in the way you view the world.
Don't we all?
--
Weak people cannot be trained to be strong. People do not change. I like people who are honest with themselves and know exactly who they are, even if their reality is a distorted view of society. I don't necessarily condone their actions in all circumstances, but I understand their motivation.
'Weak' people can indeed be taught to have self respect and stop requiring the affirmations of others, they can be taught to respect their own thoughts and actions. To say otherwise is having an extremely negative and defeatist view of the world. People DO indeed change, but I suppose if your primary reading and interest is in sociopaths, then maybe you might think otherwise as all you're reading about is those that don't... or do they? I would suggest that people aren't born into being this way, but are shaped into it via their childhood, Manson being a prime example of a childhood that would ruin most anyone. To say that people don't change is to suggest that he would have turned out exactly the same way no matter how he was brought up, which is an outright falsehood.
To me it sounds far too much like you wish you could turn off guilt and social responsibility in your head and act like these people, solely having regard for themselves.
Which is a pretty sad way to be, admiring those in our world who hate the rest ... I prefer to admire those that do GOOD and strive to make the world a better place through helping others, not by killing off those that disagree with us.

Charles Manson's Epic Answer (24 sec)
To have respect and admiration for people who have 'charisma' such as Manson, Koresh and Hubbard is pretty warped. You say yourself the only people that follow them are the weak and easily lead, so really, what are you applauding them for? The ability to be so self centered that they take advantage of the weak and pathetic for their own hedonistic and then violent needs?
Yeah, there's something to applaud.
I'd much more applaud someone who saw these people, saw how easily fooled and led they were and used their charisma and knowledge to, oh, I don't know... perhaps HELP THEM. Perhaps take the time to listen to them, to teach them the power of rational thought, to teach them self respect, to teach them respect for others, and perhaps teach them that they don't need some 'leader' figure to make their decisions for them. But be a big enough person that they don't NEED the adoration of others to feel any self worth in themselves. To be a complete enough person to be HAPPY when they stop listening to them and thank them and head out on their own to do better in the community.
I will never idolize, congratulate or think highly of any of the complete dicks you list as people you're fascinated by. Every one of them has serious personal issues and finds that the only way to feel good about themselves is to have hoards of gullible fools worship them.
You seem to be all about the personal responsibility and that if someone listens to someone else and does something bad, well, that's their own damn fault because their weak and foolish. Yeah, well, perhaps you should put some higher standards on those people who are learned, who do see how things work, and perhaps you should be far more annoyed at those people abusing the power and knowledge they have for personal sick means.
Geeze you have issues in the way you view the world.
